About MeterGlass

MeterGlass is a simple and intuitive light meter app designed for film photographers. It uses your device's camera to measure ambient light and calculate exposure settings in real time.

How to Use

  1. Open the app and grant camera access when prompted.
  2. Point your device at the scene you want to meter.
  3. Set your ISO value using the on-screen controls.
  4. Read the exposure values — the app will display recommended shutter speed and aperture combinations.
  5. Adjust preferences such as aperture step and default aperture in the settings.

Why does MeterGlass need camera access?

MeterGlass uses the camera sensor to measure the light intensity of your scene. No photos or videos are taken or saved — the camera is used solely for real-time light metering.

How accurate is the metering?

MeterGlass provides reliable readings suitable for film photography. Results may vary slightly depending on your device model and lighting conditions. We recommend bracketing your exposures for critical shots.

The app shows a black screen / camera won't start

Please check the following:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure MeterGlass has permission enabled.
  • Restart the app.
  • Restart your device if the issue persists.

Can I use MeterGlass without an internet connection?

Yes. MeterGlass works entirely offline — no internet connection is needed.

How do I reset my settings?

Deleting and reinstalling the app will reset all preferences to their default values.
